Unlock Adventure and Connection at a Blue Star Museum Near You!
Did you know Blue Star Museums is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and museums across America to offer free admission to the nation’s active-duty military personnel, including National Guard and Reserve, and their families each summer? Since 2010, military families have been given an opportunity to explore a new local cultural centerpiece to pique their curiosity and learn something new. More importantly, Blue Star Museums ensures military families have free access to community attractions during critical summer months when they are arriving at a new duty station.
Recently, the San Diego Chapter visited the Museum of Making Music as a way to connect with other military families, enjoying the interactive exhibits, the guided tour, and a drumming circle that brought everyone together.
Hannah Smith shared with us, “My children and I had such a fun time at the Museum of Making Music! It was a great and educational experience for the kiddos and even myself. They had an amazing time playing all the instruments at the end of the tour! I appreciate the opportunity we were afforded by the Blue Star Families organization and Ms. Carlton for exploring the museum for the very first time.”
And we heard from the Suliguin family, “Thanks to the Blue Star Museums program, our family got to visit the Museum of Making Music — and it was such a great experience. We loved trying out the instruments and learning about music. It was fun, educational, and a perfect way for us to spend time together. As a military family, it meant a lot to feel welcomed and supported like that. We left inspired and [are] already talking about going back!”
The Museum of Making Music, located in Carlsbad, California, celebrates the accomplishments and impact of the people who make, sell, and use musical instruments and products. It does this through unique exhibitions, vibrant and varied live music performances, and innovative educational programs.
What are you waiting for? In 2025, nearly 1,500 museums are participating in the program, and there are only a few weeks left in the season!
