It's the Month of the Military Child!
I don't know how, but April is in full swing. This year is passing me by faster than I'd like, but I am grateful to have a moment to sit and reflect on the beauty that this particular month holds.
For those who may not know, April is the Month of the Military Child, and I am so grateful for that. It's an entire month to celebrate some of the most adaptable, intelligent, and fun humans alive (and I promise, I'm not just saying that because I have a few of my own).
If anyone deserves an opportunity to be recognized for their selfless service, it's our military kids. They did not choose this life, but because of their parents' jobs, they are asked to endure, go without, be strong, and start over so many times throughout their young lives. From unexpected deployments to cross-country (or cross-continental) moves, military kids face fast-moving emotional rollercoasters while navigating the "normal" hills and valleys of growing up in today's world. It's. A. LOT!
And the older my kids get, the more difficult it seems. I'm starting to see the emotional toll it takes on them when they hear those three letters, P-C-S. We talk a lot about feelings, emotions, and the good times despite the sad. My kids were resilient before they even knew what that term meant, and I'm sure if you have military kids, you feel the same way.
So this month, let's get loud for our military kids. Let's shower them with love, praise, and adoration by meeting them where they are and showing up for who they are.
If you're looking for ways to celebrate, check out this blog from SpouseLink. Here in The Neighborhood, we also have a few special things planned, including a live virtual event with our Perks Partner, Dr. Yum Project, and another virtual Dungeons and Dragons game for our military kids ages 10-17! Blue Star Chapters nationwide will also host a variety of events, so make sure you've joined your local Chapter group.
We are so glad you're here.
