Breaking the Silence: Embracing Mental Health This World Mental Health Day
By Jillian Johnson | Digital Content Creator
This World Mental Health Day, let's emphasize the importance of recognizing our mental well-being.
Our mental health impacts virtually every area of our lives — our emotional and physical well-being, relationships, decision-making abilities, our work, and the way we view ourselves. Mental health is not just an individual concern; it’s a collective responsibility that influences our communities and society as a whole, shaping how we connect, support one another, and navigate life’s challenges together.
I am no stranger to struggling with my mental health, and I’ve realized that sharing my own experiences not only fosters personal growth but also opens the door for others to share their stories, creating a supportive environment where we can all learn from one another. We break down the stigma surrounding mental health by sharing our stories and empowering ourselves and those around us to seek help without fear or shame.
Blue Star Families understands the impact that mental health has on the military and Veteran community and has partnered with other organizations to provide tools to help individuals access resources, build resilience, and foster connections that promote overall well-being. Check out some of the resources and programs below:
Explore music therapy with Spiritune

Access peer support and education through Blue Star Support Circles
Blue Star Support Circles are small, nonclinical cohorts designed for supporters of service members and Veterans that offer educational training and resources to empower supporters to intervene before a mental health crisis. . These circles foster connection, provide peer support, and equip participants with strategies to navigate the complexities of military life. By joining a Support Circle, individuals can find camaraderie and empowerment in their journeys toward mental well-being.
If you’re interested in joining a Blue Star Support Circle, you can reach out through the Blue Star Families website or local military support organizations. Participation is open to military families, Veterans, and caregivers, ensuring that everyone has a place to share and connect.
Remember, everyone’s journey with mental health is unique. While no two experiences are the same, each story is valuable and worth sharing.
